5 Essential Kitchen Needs

Updated: June, 2022

It is really hard to know the most essential kitchen needs given that there are many trendy and high-tech kitchenware in the market that would really spice up your cooking life.

However, you might be paying this stuff through your nose and consequently might not have many chances to enjoy your meals anymore. What’s more, if you are a busy person and don’t have much time to cook, some of the appliances might just turn as displays rather than be useful for cooking or eating.

If you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for kitchen wares or appliances or if you are busy as a bee, then, here are five basic essential kitchen needs that you should have now or eventually.

1. Tablewares

The first essential kitchen utensil that you need for your house is the tablewares, of course. Tablewares is the collective term for the utensils used for eating and serving food. It includes various kinds of spoons, forks, knives, plates, serving dishes, glasses, and the like.

Originally, these tablewares are referred to as “silverwares” since it was formerly made from silver.  Today, however, stainless steel or plastic is a more likely choice.

So, apparently, in every meal, silverwares are a must to have, unless you are into prehistoric times where people make and serve food with bare hands.

2.  Electric Appliances

For many people, it might be difficult to choose the right household appliances ranging from good espresso machines, blenders, pressure cookers, refrigerators, lightings, and the list goes on. However, always remember to choose the ones that you always need for your daily needs.

If you are a mother who always makes breakfast for her family, a pressure cooker, blender, mixer, food processor, fridge and many more must be necessary.

On one hand, if you are a person with a hectic schedule and who always stay at his or her office, an electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster, or microwave might be the most necessary ones. Only some would understand.

3. Cookware

If you are a beginner in cooking, nonstick skillets would be great utensils for you. However, don’t ever use metallic kitchen ware on nonstick pans since scratched surfaces negatively affect their nonstick surfaces.

What’s more, you’ll surely want both small and large nonstick skillets and stainless-steel skillets when cooking. You might also want small and large saucepans and stockpots. Do not forget spatulas, tongs, colander, can opener, whisk and chopping boards as well.

4. Stove and Countertop Griller

You should not literally forget a major appliance like a stove. Basically, if you want to cook, whether gas or electric stove or two-burner or four-burner stove or whatnot, you really need a stove.

Also, a countertop grill is one of the handiest appliances used for making a quick and healthy lunch or dinner. Use it to cook burgers, fish, steak or chicken breasts, or to toast panini-style sandwiches.

5. Range Hood

With regards to kitchen ventilation systems, a range hood is the most important one, especially when you often cook. Range hoods are designed to collect airborne grease, moisture and cooking odors in order to avoid possible casualties in the future.

In many areas, there are some residential building codes that do not require a range hood above a stove or cooktop, but it is a wiser decision to have one.  Even if it is not legally required, you should think long and hard before forgoing a hood altogether.

Takeaway

These are the ones we use day in, day out. Some of these might be in your kitchen already, while others are gleaned from commercial kitchens during the time in, where efficiency and durability are prized above all. Some are less common versions of items we all depend on, which we think are more than worth the investment, but the question is do we really need all of these.

Another idea to consider is, buying a little here and a little there can save an all-at-once expense later. This is basically applicable to many parents as well as busy people who do not often do cooking stuff and might plan to start a family.  With this, it is fine to start a collection of odds and ends, but make sure that you would turn it to full-on, well-stocked kitchen.
